Pitchfork's got the streamy goodness of "History Song" by The Good, The Bad And The Queen.
Damon's amazingness cannot be understated. Somehow he's crept up and become one of my favorite vocalists.
Every now and then I get hung up on the need for a very particular genre of music. It's like a specific food craving, only aural.
On more than one occasion I've had a need for what I could best describe as film noir music. Bohren & Der Club Of Gore fit this genre perfectly. Fantastic music to have in the background on a dreary day or a late night.
Heard this delightful song played last night by Jonathan Coulton at Revenge Of The Book Eaters; I prefer the acoustic version from last night, but this studio version is aces as well.
Heya Tom, it’s Bob from the office down the hall
Good to see you buddy, how’ve you been?
Thing have been OK for me except that I’m a zombie now
I really wish you’d let us in
I think I speak for all of us when I say I understand
Why you folks might hesitate to submit to our demand
But here’s an FYI: you’re all gonna die screaming
We’re not unreasonable, I mean, no one’s gonna eat your eyes
All we want to do is eat your brains
We’re at an impasse here, maybe we should compromise:
If you open up the doors
We’ll all come inside and eat your brains
I don’t want to nitpick, Tom, but is this really your plan?
To spend your whole life locked inside a mall?
Maybe that’s OK for now but someday you’ll be out of food and guns
And then you’ll have to make the call
I’m not surprised to see you haven’t thought it through enough
You never had the head for all that bigger picture stuff
But Tom, that’s what I do, and I plan on eating you slowly
All we want to do is eat your brains
We’re not unreasonable, I mean, no one’s gonna eat your eyes
All we want to do is eat your brains
We’re at an impasse here, maybe we should compromise:
If you open up the doors
We’ll all come inside and eat your brains
I’d like to help you Tom, in any way I can
I sure appreciate the way you’re working with me
I’m not a monster Tom, well, technically I am
I guess I am
I’ve got another meeting Tom, maybe we could wrap it up
I know we’ll get to common ground somehow
Meanwhile I’ll report back to my colleagues who were chewing on the doors
I guess we’ll table this for now
I’m glad to see you take constructive criticism well
Thank you for your time I know we’re all busy as hell
And we’ll put this thing to bed
When I bash your head open
All we want to do is eat your brains
We’re not unreasonable, I mean, no one’s gonna eat your eyes
All we want to do is eat your brains
We’re at an impasse here, maybe we should compromise:
If you open up the doors
We’ll all come inside and eat your brains
If you enjoyed this, go send Jonathan a buck.
Even without ConEd screwing everything else, my air conditioner makes a lot of noise. It's a sort of rhythmic, constantly pulsing buzz. Kind of soothing, really.
I've got my "New And Awesome" playlist going (criteria: rated **** or higher, most recently added 25 songs), and Transmission by Joy Division just came on. (My love for Joy Division has only bloomed recently, despite listening to New Order for the better part of 7 years.)
And then I noticed it: the rhythm of my air conditioner exactly matches the steady bass guitar at the beginning.
Now if only Buttons would start singing like Ian Curtis.
...
Maybe not.
Not sure if anyone is interested, but Keane tickets went on sale today.
Ticketmaster's gotten me twice in the last week. Curses!
I am not far enough into listening to give it a full review, but I would just like to note that Ratatat wins my Song Title Of The Month award for his brilliantly titled Tacobel Canon.
What's the one CD that will totally remind you of the Summer of 2006?
It's the cliched answer, but it's going to be St. Elsewhere by Gnarls Barkley. Simple reasons why:
- It's fantastic.
- It's catchy.
- It's got a good beat and you can dance to it.
- I have been uniformly disappointed by nearly everything else that's come out this year.
More importantly, I've reached a critical turning point, where I no longer think of Dangermouse as someone riding off the success of one weak mashup album. (An aside: yes, people, The Grey Album sucked compared to what the GYBO kids were putting out at the time). But I am now sold on the Mouse - he's done three fantastic albums in the past year: first Demon Days (better than the Gorillaz first!), then The Mouse And The Mask (Adult Swim raps? Sure, why not), and now St. Elsewhere.
Tangentially related: I am trying to mash Tishomingo Blues - and for you heathens, that's the theme song to A Praire Home Companion - into Crazy. It's not going so well.
