I just learned (via kottke) that the act of choosing your subway platform position based on being closest to the stairs/exit when you reach your destination is called prewalking.
I am obsessive/compulsive about prewalking. Stations I can prewalk to in my sleep include:
- Ditmars Blvd (hello home stop!)
- The first 5 stops in Manhattan on the N/W - Lexington Ave, 5th Avenue, 57th St, 49th St, Times Square
- Lexington Avenue on the 6
- 51st St on the 6
- 68th St/Hunter College
- 23rd St A/C/E
And thankfully, I can predictively prewalk most other stations if I've been there once and know which direction I want to be facing.
I never expected to be a transit nerd, but here we are.
"Little Italy" is a pain in the ass to say repeatedly during a conversation.
Could we start calling it "Litaly" instead?
From the NYT Article, Gordon Ramsay Takes Manhattan, Tiptoeing, He Says (emphasis mine):
The menu will feature both à la carte and tasting menus similar to those served at his flagship restaurant in London. While he hasn’t finalized pricing, Mr. Ramsay said “it’s not going to be a basement bargain, but it’s not going to be the most expensive restaurant in New York either.”
Mr. Ramsay described the food only as “very natural” and “very proper,” adding that any patron trying to take pictures of it would be banned.
“We’re not going to stand there and gawk,” he said.
Nothing like a challenge to get the food bloggers going.
